Learning Focus:
I can…

  • add details to a draft to make it complete
  • perfect meaningful dialogue
  • ensure that my story includes the theme "change" in it

A. Change Seats
B. Turn in Independent Reading #10

Opening:
1. Review the Scoring Guide on page 135-136.  What is most important in a short story?

Work Period:
2. Complete the Self-Assessment steps described on page 132 in SpringBoard.

Your story should have all the details from your graphic organizers.  Are there any elements left out that still need to be added?

  • Do you have transitions that show Chronology?
  • Is your dialogue helpful to the story?  Is there "just enough"?
  • Do your dialogue tags vary?
  • Do you have descriptive details (sensory details and verbs)?
  • Where is the Change that occurs in the story?

Closing:
3. Be sure to make any notes in the margins that will help you when you make a new draft of your story.
