Opening:
1. Spelling Bee Practice during Tutorials today and tomorrow.  Spelling Bee moved to FRIDAY.

2. Grade Update

3. Small Groups: Share your dialogue from "My Superpowers"

4. Journal: Create a Multi-Flow Map that represents the cause/effect relationship between Dan Greenburg's experience with the bullies and what follows.

5. Under the Multi-Flow Map: Write a Topic Sentence/Summary of what Dan Green berg learned from this incident.

    "From this incident, Dan Greenburg learned that..."


Work Period:
6. Pages 27-28:
In your small groups: 

  • Reread the openings of Kira-Kira and "My Superpowers"
    • Highlight important details of setting
    • Mark important details that detail the situation or background behind the incident.
7. Discuss: 
  • What do you notice about Openings that build expectation for the rest of the story?  
  • What do we learn from about the narrators from the openings?
  • What feelings are expressed?  
    • How do they express them?  
  • Is there dialogue?  
    • Why or why not?
