Opening:
1. Take a look at the Scoring Guide on page 34 and 35.

2. I will Read Aloud a model from last year: "The Loose Hood"

  • What score do you give it?

3. What made that model earn the score you assigned it?

Work Period:
4. Review your Mini Memory Map (Step 4 on page 31):
  • Is your Sequence of Events clear?
  • Have your determined Who was involved in the incident?  Are you ready to characterize them?
    • actions
    • appearance
    • what they say
    • what others say about them
  • Do you have details about Where the incident took place, using sensory details?
  • Is your response to the incident present: What you were thinking and feeling while it happened and right after?
  • Do you have a few things that were said written down in dialogue format?
  • Do you know what caused the incident?    
  • Have your tried writing a Reflection, describing how and why the incident changed you?

5. Draft your Personal Narrative Essay


Closing:
6. After you have drafted your essay, complete Steps 7-12 on page 32.

  • Once you have worked through these steps, you are ready to create a SECOND DRAFT to show to a partner.
