- Question Mark (?): anything in the text you might have a question about
- Exclamation Point (!): any part of the story that creates a reaction in you
- Asterisk (*): anything in the story that you want to comment on during a discussion of the story

3. Read "Thank You, M'am" together on pages 116-119.
- Use metacognitive markers as we read together.
4. After we've read:
- mark the text by CIRCLING physical descriptions of the characters
- try to visualize and SKETCH the characters in the "My Notes" section
