Opening:
1. Discuss Article Of the Week.

  • Turn it in.

Work Period:
2. Write a topic sentence about Stanley’s character up to Ch. 10. 

  • Put it in #2 on pg. 232.  
  • Try using parallel structure in your topic sentence.

3. Share your topic sentences with a partner.  Share with the entire classroom on a sentence strip.

4. Read the Literary Term box and write your own definition for Textual Evidence under the box.

5. Discuss the definition as a class.
What's the difference between the following:
  • quotations?
  • summaries?
  • paraphrases?
6. Do the quickwrite #3 on pg. 232. Predict how Stanley will change while he is at camp.
a.     Remember M.E.A.L.
b.     Use textual evidence.



7. On pg. 233 read the letter Stanley is writing to his mother.

  • Infer why Stanley chooses to lie to his mother. Write your answer in #2.
  • Discuss the possible reasons for him lying.
  • Think about the boys at the camp, and discuss how the boys really are vs. how Stanley would present them to his mother.
8. Fill out the table on pg. 234.



Closing:
9. Fill out the table on pg. 235 about incidents that have happened to Stanley. Include pg. numbers from Holes. This will be homework if not finished.
Homework:

  • Read Holes Ch. 17 through the end of 18.
  • Don’t forget your Reading Log and 10-15 Notes on Reading due Monday.  The Reading Log should include your notes from Holes.
